TROY – Troy University’s Air Force ROTC Detachment 017 will take part in a nationwide effort Friday and Saturday to recognize American heroes who have died in service to the country.
Cadets will read the names of some 1,700 soldiers dating from the Revolutionary War through the present day who have been killed in action. On Friday, the reading will begin at 8 a.m. on the Bibb Graves Quad in front of the Adams Administration Building. Saturday’s reading will begin at 10 a.m. between the Math and Science Complex and University Avenue.
“For me it is an honor to read the names of these fallen heroes, these individuals who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country,” said Tyler Staub, TROY’s AFROTC recruiting officer, “to not only honor them, but also remind people, including myself, that freedom is not free.”
The Air Force ROTC program also will collect donations for the Troy for Troops scholarship program, which benefits the dependents of those service men and women killed in the line of duty.
