3 arrested at check point following armed apt. burglary | Crime

OPP, AL (WSFA) - Opp police are confirming three arrests after a burglary in progress investigation started Thursday with units being called to the Carriage House Apartments.

Officers arrived on the scene around 11pm and were told by a tenant that she'd been confronted by three men wearing masks and carrying weapons as she was walking up the stairs to her apartment. The woman fled the scene and called police.

Opp Police say they were contaced by Alabama State Troopers, who along with the Covington County Sheriff's Department, was conducting a driver's safety checkpoint on U.S. Highway 331. The officers were advised that three suspects had come through the checkpoint and were acting suspicioulsy.

When Troopers were advised of the ongoing investigation at the Carriage House Apts., they immediately detained the three suspects at the checkpoint.

The suspects were later identified as Thomas Junion Adams, 34, Michael Deon Streeter, 28, and Princeton Tayron Taylor, 22, all of Union Springs.

A search of the suspects' vehicle yielded the discovery of two handguns, a large quantity of cocaine, marijuana, money and various items identified as coming from the apartment complex victim.

The men are now charged with burgarly in the first degree and theft of property in the second degree. They were transported to the Covington County Jail where Streeter's bond was set at $820,000. Adams and Taylor have bonds set at $600,000.

The 22nd Judicial District Drug Task Force is also helping with the investigaiton and drug charges are pending against each suspect.
