Animal cruelty warrants signed after malnourished horses found

The Troy Police Department is investigating a serious cruelty to animal incident involving horses according to information released by Chief Jimmy Ennis.  The horses were located on Smart Road and Pike County Road 2294 in Troy.

TPD received information from the owner of three horses that left his horses on Pike County Road 2294 with the suspect to care for them while he was overseas.  The owner of the horses took feed to the suspect for his horses and advised that he would provide more when needed.  When the owner returned home he discovered his horses very malnourished and near death.  The owner took two of his horses to another location earlier this week and contacted the Troy Police Department.  The third horse which belonged to his son had died due to malnutrition.

Troy Police responded to a reported robbery at the 10,000 block of US Highway 231 South of Troy at approximately 1:30 pm Friday according to information released by Chief Jimmy Ennis.

 The incident occurred at the apartments formerly known as Bowden’s Motel.

The victim advised that four black males entered his residence and demanded money from him.  One of the suspects was armed with a firearm.  During the altercation the said one of the suspects struck him in the head with a wooden stick causing it to bleed. The victim was transported to Troy Medical Center’s Emergency Room for treatment by Care Ambulance Service.

A witness advised police the suspects were last seen leaving the apartments headed toward Poplar Hill Mobile Home Park also on US 231.

Troy Police arrested a black male Thursday at approximately 4:30 pm in connection with the early morning armed robbery and attempted murder at approximately 1:45 a.m. on Thursday according to information released by Chief Jimmy Ennis. 

He is identified as 19-year-old Jonathan Hooten from Troy.  He has been charged with attempted murder and robbery 1st degree in this case. 

Warrants were signed and issued for Hooten’s arrest on Thursday. TPD detectives believe at least one other subject was with Hooten during the robbery and attempted murder.

The victim, Aaron Lee Russell, 22-YOA from Troy, was shot in the right leg.  He was taken to Troy Regional Medical Center’s Emergency Room by the offenders, where they dropped him off and fled the scene.

Troy Police arrested Cedrick Lamar Poole a 30-year-old black male from Troy today after he attempted to elude police Thursday morning at approximately 11:00 a.m. according to information released by Chief Jimmy Ennis.

Officers executed traffic stop on a 1991Mercury Cougar for a switched tag on College Street. The vehicle appeared to comply with officers when it then attempted to elude police.  The vehicle traveled on several streets, through a construction zone on Elm Street and turned onto Park Street where the vehicle left the road  and the driver bailed out of the car as it ran through a fence an came to rest in the parking lot of Skyview Apartments on Park Street.

Poole fled on from police and he swung at and struck one of the officers on the head.  Poole then ran across Park Street into a field where he was taken into custody by TPD officers.

Pike County man arrested in recovery of stolen logging trailer

A joint investigation by the Alabama Forestry Commission (AFC) and the Pike County District Attorney’s Office has resulted in an arrest for theft of a 1995 logging trailer valued at $10,000. John David Mills, Jr., aged 36 of Goshen, was charged on May 7 with Theft in the First Degree. Mills was released from the Pike County Jail on $5,000 bond. Theft of Property, First Degree, is a Class B felony which, if convicted, carries a jail sentence of 2-20 years and/or a fine up to $30,000.

TROY, AL (WSFA) -  A Troy man is in critical condition at a Birmingham hospital after he was shot in the neck following a disagreement outside of a local cafe.

According to the Troy Police Department, two males were involved in an altercation shortly before 1:45 a.m. Sunday in front of the Star Cafe on U.S. Highway 231 South. The suspect produced a handgun and shot the victim in the neck while standing outside of the business. The suspect then ran from the establishment into a wooded area nearby.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, then later moved to a Birmingham hospital in critical condition.
