Troy to host free conference for parents, teachers of gifted students in grades K-2

Troy University will host the Fifth Annual Gifted Education Conference for parents and teachers of high-ability K-2 students at the Dothan Campus on Saturday, April 6, from 9:30 – 3 p.m. in the Michelin Room in the Library/Technology Building.

This year’s theme is developing early interest in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

The free event is sponsored by the College of Education and is aimed at helping parents and teachers better meet the needs of high-ability students in kindergarten through second grade.

“Typically, students are not identified and served in gifted programs until third grade. Therefore, we want to provide parents and classroom teachers with techniques that can enrich the curriculum for K-2 students prior to enrollment in a gifted program,” said Dr.

Space is still available for employers at Troy University’s Spring Career Fair, scheduled for April 4 on the Troy Campus.

The event is aimed at matching employers with students and alumni who are searching for new jobs.

“This event is an incredibly important opportunity for our students,” said Lauren Cole, coordinator of career services. “With the job market turning around, it’s a vital time for both employers and prospects to get face-to-face.”

Employers can register for the career via Trojan Recruiting Live (https://troy-csm.symplicity.com/), a website that connects employers with Troy University students and alumni, and a resume database for TROY students. Students can also preview the employers attending the fair at the website.

The Spring Career Fair will take place in Sartain Hall from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m.

There is a limited supply of goodie bags and t-shirts so it is a first come first serve basis.  Children must have parental/legal guardian supervision at all times.

Area author to hold book signing on March 25th

Area author to hold book signing on March 25th

Author Tiara L. Hawthorne will hold a book singing event on Monday, March 25th from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Barnes & Noble, located at 101 Trojan Way in Troy. Hawthorne, a resident of Brantley, AL, will be available to sign copies of her book, Pick Up Your Weapons and Fight!

It took me a while to recognize in my Christian walk that I was a soldier on the battlefield for Christ. For many years, all I could think about was being in the military. Little did I know that I had already been chosen, predestined before I was yet formed in the womb, to fight on the battlefield for the Lord.

Tiara L. Hawthorne has endured the rigorous training required to become a member of the best military in the world. She has done the pushups, the running, and the sweating. She has heard the bark of a drill instructor's commands.
