TROY, AL (WSFA)- The Troy Police Department responded to a strong armed robbery around 12:45p.m. at a residence on Booker Street Friday.

According to officials an unknown black male, wearing a grey business suit, knocked on the door of the 85-year-old victim and advised the resident he was a detective from Montgomery. The suspect showed the victim a police type badge and told her he was conducting an investigation in reference to forged checks and counterfeit money. The victim complied with the subject's requests to see if her money was "fake" and took an undisclosed amount of money from the victim's purse without her knowledge.

A subsequent investigation by the Troy Police Department revealed the incident that occurred was theft of property 2nd degree in excess of $500 and less than $2,500.

The suspect left the victim's residence on foot and got into a black van that was traveling toward Academy Street.

The case remains under investigation. If anyone has information they are asked to contact the Troy Police Department at 566-0500 or the Secret Witness Line at 566-5555.
