Gov. Robert Bentley has awarded a $2,964 grant to the Alabama Department of Insurance to purchase new bulletproof vests for deputy fire marshals.
The Alabama Fire Marshal’s Office will purchase 11 vests to provide an extra measure of protection for deputy fire marshals investigating fires, explosions and arson-related crimes.
“Our fire marshals need to take precautions to protect themselves as they work to uncover the cause of fires and pursue arsonists,” Bentley said.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice. ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, infrastructure upgrades, recreation, energy conservation, water resources, job training and career development.
Bentley notified Jim Ridling, commissioner of Department of Insurance, that the grant had been approved. Matching funds of $2,964 will supplement the award.
