Second person arrested in Troy University armed robbery

TROY, AL (WSFA) - Officials with Troy University say a second person - this time a Troy student - has been arrested in connection with a February 4 armed robbery on campus.

According to the university, a student by the name of Christopher Cook was arrested and charged with robbery first degree in connection with the incident.

A 20-year-old student reported being robbed by three black males outside of Alumni Hall.

Authorities previously arrested a 14-year-old juvenile in connection with the same robbery. One suspect is still at large.

TROY – Dr. Bill Grantham, a long-time professor of anthropology and chair of the Social Sciences Department, has been named associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Troy University.

In his new role, Dr. Grantham will serve as the administrative officer of the College, working in close coordination with the academic programs, and the three assistant deans for administration on the Dothan, Montgomery and Global Campuses will report to him, said Dr. Jim Rinehart, Dean of the College.

“Dr. Grantham’s experience as both a senior faculty member and a proven administrator within the College will be of significant value in his new assignment,” he said.

Troy Announces 2013 Troy University Sports Hall of Fame class

Eight former Troy University student-athletes, administrators and coaches will be enshrined into the Troy University Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday, April 20, Athletic Director John Hartwell announced Thursday afternoon.
 
The second class into the Troy University Sports Hall of Fame consists of John Archer (men’s basketball), John “Doc” Anderson (track & field/cross country; administration), Bobby Enslen (football), Chan Gailey (football), Danny Grant (football), Joyce Sorrell (women’s basketball; administration), Willie Tullis (football) and Lawrence Tynes (football).
 
"Troy has a tremendous athletics history and the eight selections for the 2013 Troy University Sports Hall of Fame class are outstanding representatives of our past," Hartwell said. "In addition to their athletic accomplishments which speak for themselves, they have also been great ambassadors for Troy University throughout their communities and across the country.

Missing Pike County teen located

TROY, AL (WSFA) - The Troy Police Department say missing 13-year-old Isiah Deyshuan Jones has been located and will soon return home.

Authorities say Troy PD Detectives located Jones at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning in an area on Kelly Road.

Police say Jones was in good shape. He was transported to the Troy Police Department and his mother was notified of his whereabouts. He is expected to be released into the custody of his mother.

TROY, AL (WSFA) - The Troy Police Department is asking for help to find a missing teenage boy last seen on Monday night.

According to police, 13-year-old Isiah Deyshuan Jones was last seen at his residence on Pike County Road 7738 just north of Troy on Monday, February 4 at approximately 8:30 p.m.

Jones is described as approximately 5'10" tall, weighing approximately 180 pounds. Police say he is possibly dressed in a gray jacket and tan pants.

Police also say Jones is believed to have acquaintances in the Meeksville area of Pike County.

Five inducted into National Bandmasters Association Hall of Fame at Troy University

Five new members were inducted into the National Bandmasters Association’s Hall of Fame of Distinguished Conductors during a banquet on Saturday at Troy University.

Inducted were Dr. Bobby Adams from Stetson University; Ray E. Cramer from Indiana University; Paula A. Crider from the University of Texas; Thomas V. Fraschillo from the University of Southern Mississippi and the late John P. Paynter from Northwestern University.

The Hall of Fame opened on the Troy Campus in 1980 and later moved to its current location in the Hawkins-Adams-Long Hall of Honor. It is the only national hall of fame located in Alabama. The National Band Association is the world’s largest band organization.

Adams serves as director of bands, professor of music education and coordinator of instrumental music at the Stetson University School of Music in DeLand, Fla. A member of the Stetson faculty since 1987, Dr.
