AUM Men's Soccer to host college prep camp in January

The Auburn University at Montgomery men's soccer program and the Wulf Koch Soccer Academy will host its annual College Prep Camp, a two-day camp and clinic, on Jan. 28-29, 2012, at the AUM Soccer Stadium.

The event is open to boys ages 15 and up and provides an opportunity to become more familiar with the elite college level. This camp has a specifically designed curriculum and will feature only the best and most effective techniques available. All instruction will be conducted by college coaches, who will put campers through the paces of a typical college pre-season routine.

The camp setting will challenge the field players in attacking skills, speed of play, and quick decision making through small-sided, 11 vs. 11 matches.

Pastor of Atlanta’s famed Ebenezer church to keynote leadership conference lunch at TROY

TROY—The Rev. Raphael G. Warnock, pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, will deliver keynote remarks Saturday, Feb. 4, to close the 11th annual Leadership Conference Celebrating African-American History Month at Troy University.

He will speak at the closing luncheon, scheduled to begin at noon in the Trojan Center Ballrooms on the Troy Campus.

Since 2005 Dr. Warnock has served as pastor of the historic church Ebenezer Baptist Church, known worldwide as the spiritual home of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He has also served at Sixth Avenue Baptist Church of Birmingham, where he was youth pastor; Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem, New York, where was associate pastor; and Douglas Memorial Community Church in Baltimore, where he was senior pastor.

Broadway favorite "Damn Yankees" coming to Davis Theatre

The national tour of the Broadway classic "Damn Yankees" will come to Montgomery for one night only with a performance at Troy University’s Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts on Friday, Jan. 27, at 7 p.m.

The award-winning musical tells the tale of a 1950s middle-aged baseball fanatic who sells his soul to the devil to lead his favorite team, the Washington Senators, in the pennant race against the New York Yankees only to learn that there is more to life than home runs. Filled with hit songs like "Whatever Lola Wants" and "You Gotta Have Heart," "Damn Yankees" won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

Single tickets for the performance are on sale now and range in price from $25 to $50. Tickets for the middle and back balcony are being offered "buy one, get one free." Seating at this discounted price will be assigned by the theatre based upon availability.

The Davis Theatre is located in downtown Montgomery at 251 Montgomery Street.

TROY—An entrepreneur who gained national recognition on the popular reality TV show “The Apprentice” will kick off the 11th annual Leadership Conference Celebrating African-American History Month Feb. 3 at Troy University.

The opening session is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Trojan Center Theatre on the Troy Campus.

Randal Pinkett, co-founder, chairman and chief executive officer of BCT Partners, a management, technology and consulting firm, will deliver the opening address beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Trojan Center on the Troy Campus. Dr. Pinkett was the season four winner of “The Apprentice” with Donald Trump.

Alabama Wildlife Federation to host Outdoor Classroom workshop next month

The Alabama Wildlife Federation is hosting statewide workshops entitled "Sustaining and Maintaining Your Outdoor Classroom as an Effective Learning Environment". 

The purpose of these workshops is to help teachers and schools sustain and maintain their outdoor classroom site as an effective educational tool for years to come.  They will have tips to help schools sustain excitement and maintain learning stations long after the newness wears off.

These workshops will be held at five different locations across Alabama, including Millbrook, which will host its workshop on February 23rd at the Alabama Wildlife Federation  The workshop begins at 9:00 a.m.

TROY earns honor roll status in national ranking

TROY – Four Troy University online programs have been named honor roll programs by U.S.News & World Report’s first-ever “Top Online Education Program” rankings.

TROY’s online bachelor’s degree program in education, and its graduate degree programs in business, education and nursing all made honor rolls.

“These rankings speak to the quality and promise of TROY’s approach to online education, as well as to the outstanding effort from faculty, staff and administrators,” said Dr. Lance Tatum, Vice Chancellor of Global Campus, the arm of the University responsible for its distance learning and outside-of-Alabama operations.

The publication included online bachelor’s degree programs and graduate-level online degree programs in business, engineering, nursing, education and computer information technology.
