Warhawks drop final game of Campbellsville Series, 10-1

The Auburn Montgomery baseball team was sluggish coming out of a nearly one-hour rain delay on Tuesday, as a six-run seventh inning blew open a close game and sent the Warhawks to a 10-1 loss against Campbellsville in the final game of a three-game series between the two teams.

With the loss, the Warhawks fell to 12-9 on the season, while the Tigers improved to 9-4 overall.

“Campbellsville took advantage of every opportunity they had today,” head coach Q.V. Lowe said. “We never seemed to recover from the delay and they did a good job of battling through a difficult situation. Campbellsville is a good team and I am happy to have won two of the three games against them. We just have to continue getting better as we prepare for a conference series this weekend.”

AUM took the lead early in the contest, when junior Blake Bearden plated the lone run of the game in the bottom of the first inning.

No. 18 AUM sweeps doubleheader from Campbellsville, 5-3 and 3-0

The No. 18 Auburn Montgomery baseball team swept a midweek doubleheader against Campbellsville University on Monday, taking the opener 5-3 and the nightcap 3-0.

With the wins, the Warhawks improved to 12-8 on the season, while the Tigers fell to 8-4 overall.

“The guys really stepped up and got it done today,” head coach Q.V. Lowe said. “I thought one run might win it in game two, but it ended up that they made a couple mistakes that really helped us out. We talk all the time about putting the ball in and putting the pressure on them, and we were able to do that today.”

In the opener, the Warhawks scored three times in the fifth inning to break open at 2-2 tie. Freshman Shelby Nobles drove in a run with a RBI double, before later scoring on a wild pitch.

Turner drives in six as Warhawks roll past Georgia Southwestern, 14-7

Turner drives in six as Warhawks roll past Georgia Southwestern, 14-7

Senior Shane Turner matched a career high with six with runs batted in to lead the No. 18 Auburn Montgomery baseball team past NCAA Division II foe Georgia Southwestern 14-7 on Wednesday at the AUM Baseball Field.

With the win, the Warhawks improved to 10-8 on the season and snapped their three-game skid. The Hurricanes fell to 5-9 overall.

“I think when Shane (Turner) hit his home run to give us a little cushion, it really relaxed our hitters,” head coach Q.V. Lowe said. “We didn’t play good defense early, but we were able to overcome that once everyone settled down a little bit. I think Wes (Hughes), Brandon (Pooler) and Chad (Mansmann) all swung the bat well for us. Shane really came through with a couple big hits for us to take the pressure off. I was proud of the way the guys battled today.”

Turner finished the day 3 for 5 at the plate, hitting a grand slam and driving in two with a single in the eighth inning.
